The highest detail for black and white and spot color is available with any offset press process using negatives and plates. Photocopies run directly from digital files can often supply better detail than those made from traditional paste-ups or printouts. For full color, four-color process provides the most detail, though constant improvements have made color copies a very acceptable method of reproduction. When concerned about detail, ask to see accurate proofs and make your expectations clear to the printer.
